While registering your company’s trademark is important, it is imperative to understand that your registration will not last forever.
The process of registering your trademark can take between three and four months, or longer if any objection is raised. However, once your trademark has been registered it will remain valid for a period of ten years. Once that time has elapsed, you will be required to renew your trademark to continue its protection. So long as your trademark is still in use you can continue renewing it every ten years for ongoing protection.

How Is A Trademark Validated Or Renewed?
If your trademark has been registered before, there is a process that must be followed to validate or renew it. You will receive a notification informing you to complete the process, which involves completing a TM3 paper form or online form and submitting it to UKIPO. On this form, you must enter details about the trademark including information about its type, classification, and design.
How Much Does It Cost To Renew A Trademark?
Renewal fees for UK trademarks begins at £200. If you fail to renew your trademark with UKIPO on time, you will lose its legal protection.
How Long Do I Have To Renew My Trademark?
It is possible to renew your trademark registration up to six months after its renewal date but if you do this, you will be charged an additional late renewal fee. Once this grace period of six months has elapsed, it is still possible to make an application to restore the trademark for a further six months, giving you a total of a full year following your trademark’s renewal date to make your application should you wish to do so. However, if you wish to renew your protection without having to pay the additional cost over and beyond the renewal fee, you should make sure that you submit your renewal application in plenty of time.
