If you are registering your company’s trademark, you will need to pay certain fees in order to do so. Directly registering your trademark with UKIPO (The UK Intellectual Property Office) will incur an application fee which stands currently at £170 when making your application online or at £200 if you are making your application by post. This fee is not refunded in the event of your application failing.
Registering In Multiple Classes
The £170 or £200 fee is only applicable to the first class that your trademark will be registered in. Should you require your trademark to be registered in additional classes you will have to pay an extra fee. This currently stands at £50 per each additional class.
Registering International Trademarks
If you are registering an international trademark with UKIPO, you will also need to pay a fee of £40 plus WIPO fees.
Trademark Searches And Progress Checks
There are currently no fees chargeable for carrying out a trademark search to find out whether your proposed trademark is already in use by another party, or to search for the various different classes before making an application. You will also pay no fee if you need to check the progress of your trademark application.
Removing Classes, Goods, And Services
If your trademark is not yet registered and you need to remove services, goods, or a class, you can use a TM21B form with no fee incurred.
If your trademark is already registered and removal of a class, or goods and services is necessary, you can use a TM26R form. This rectifies the register and incurs no additional fee.
Updating Personal Details
If an update is needed to your personal details, for example, to notify that your address has changed, that a representative has been appointed or that the trademark has been sold, you may need to pay a fee. While updating your email, address, or name only is free of charge, recording an ownership change or partial assignment of services or goods costs £50.
