There are many instances in which obtaining independent legal advice may be either essential or advisable and therefore, knowing where you can contact a suitably qualified professional could not be more important.
Find a Solicitor
If you are in need of independent legal advice and do not have a solicitor that you use regularly, your first step is to use the “Find A Solicitor” service offered by the Law Society. Their database holds information of more than 187,000 solicitors across Wales and England and they will be able to point you toward the legal help you require based on the specific legal issue you are experiencing and your location in the country. All of the solicitors within the Law Society’s listings are SRA (Solicitors Regulation Authority) regulated for your peace of mind.
If you are in Scotland, you can use the information provided by The Law Society of Scotland, while The Law Society of Northern Ireland is available for those living in Northern Ireland.
Citizen’s Advice
An alternative way to find an independent legal advisor is to approach your local Citizens Advice office. They will usually have their own list of local solicitors that offer advice on a fixed-fee, free, or no win, no fee basis.
Member Organisations
In some cases, you may be able to find legal advice via an organisation such as a trade union of which you are a member. Some individuals are also entitled to legal advice under the terms of an insurance policy, credit card agreement, or subscription that they have taken out.
It is aways wise to check your home, car, or any other insurance policy that you have to determine whether legal cover is included in your premium. Some motoring organisation breakdown cover policies also offer legal advice, especially with legal issues relating to road accidents or car problems.
You may have joined an organisation such as Which? That will offer you legal advice as part of your subscription. It is always worth exploring these avenues should you require independent legal advice on any matter.
